Dear Old Navy,
By acknowledging that December 25 and the season as a whole is "the Christmas Season," you are not endorsing any religion. By working so hard to not offend a large number of people who will most likely be opening a gift and not working on December 25th, you ARE offending an even larger group of people with tremendous buying power by not acknowleging that we, indeed, are in the Christmas Season.
There is nothing offensive or harmful to the notion or belief in celebrating Christmas. Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and non-Christians celebrate being with family and friends; and both celebrate by giving gifts to others, sharing food, singing hopeful, peaceful and inspirational songs and eating turkey, fruit cake and candy canes. The Christmas Season is a joyous time when people of various faiths and non-faiths celebrate LIFE.
I know I am only one individual, but there are others like me who think like me. And before you shake your head in a condescending fashion, keep in mind that it was ONE individual who started the entire anti-Christmas movement. One person started that.
It is Christmas. And another movement is afoot. As a retailer with the intent of refusing to acknowledge Christmas, you will feel this movement financially.
In this country, there is Freedom of Religion. The Freedom to TAKE AWAY Religion is nowhere in the Constitution. So go ahead....do the right thing by your customers. You are protected by the Constitution of the United States of America.
